Effects of Resistance Training on VO2 max and Muscle Strength

This chapter discusses the results of a meta-analysis on the effects of traditional high intensity resistance training programs on VO2 max, muscle strength, and muscle size. The analysis considered studies with previously untrained individuals, divided into different age groups. It was found that resistance training increased strength significantly, but only three out of the seventeen studies showed an increase in VO2 max, and these increases were only observed in young adults.
