Security firm crowd strike found similarities in parts of olympic destroyer with a piece of ransom ware a the russian hackers had used, called x data. It was just a kind of tangle of forensics with clues pointing in every direction. As soon as you thought that you had come to a conclusion, there was another hypothesis to undermine it. Hackers typically don't like being discovered, and will hide their tracks, distracting clues and false evidence all the time. But what was different about this was just the sheer number of false flags and the sophistication of it.
