The Importance of a Group Setting for Meditation

Research consistently has shown for a long time that social support is so fundamental to adopting new behaviors. The Buddhist traditions from where mindfulness meditation originated, view the meditation community or meditation sangha as really an essential part of practice. When we watch other people do something that we also want to do and we see them benefiting, it gives us a new sort of motivation to do it ourselves. Each time you practice, I encourage you to pause and remind yourself why you're meditating.
