i think that the basic problem with a mechanism based approach is that it's very hard to distinguish what exactly the mechanism is. If you're holding fixed a mechanism of unreflective habit, then you can't allow for scenarios in which some other mechanism is doing the work. You need the whole agent to be reasons responsive, is my argument.
