When i grew up in central pennsylvania, most people talked basically the way that i talk now. The poorer or more rural people i grew up with often said yal instead of you all. We are rapidly getting hipped to the idea that lots of people have never fit neatly into a purely binary gender paradime. But our language has binary, gendered pronouns. And this is particularly bad when we need to address a large group of people,. many of whom may not identify as ladies or gentlemen. So we really shouldn't address them as ladies and gentlemen.
