The Problem of Transfer of Learning

When people learn the same thing in many different contexts then to apply it to a new context they usually fail. People are actually not too bad at generalizing you just need more context in order to be able to do that so that's the problem of transfer and that's exactly what he's describing here one way of thinking about it is that you know you've only learned in the context of being in a classroom given these specific homework questions answering them with a pen whatever. Maybe that means when you think about actual physical objects in the world you just haven't made that leap of transfer yet.
