The Role of Gluten in Autoimmunity
Celiac disease was thought to be something that you would pick up early in life. A patient who came to see me had a lot of gut issues, but she also tested positive for autoimmune markers for thyroiditis and celiac genetics. So we could hypothesize based on the fact that gluten can increase gut permeability even for people who are normal at some point,. they don't have any autoimmune disease.
