Mesopotamian Myths and the Hebrew Bible

The clay tablets on which we have the fullest versions of the Anuma Elish and the Atrahasis were impressed during the 600s BCE. The bulk of the Hebrew Bible is thought to have been composed between the 700s BCE and the end of the Persian period, around 330. During the 50 years the Israelites were in Babylon, the scribes who wrote, copied, and edited Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, and some of the Talmud were in the same city-state with the Akkadian creation stories.
