In discussions of ways the future could be bad, there's sort of three types of reasons that have gotten a lot of discussion. The first category is things where there's no one around to make it good. And then another category is that there could be a powerful human civilization directed to bad goals. So if you really want the best possible outcome, then most possible futures are not that good from that perspective.
