The forecast is for the lowest levels of production since records began. The UK's female pig breeding herd has fallen by a quarter since 2020. Apple orchards in Kent are being taken out of production, and as we've heard, many more greenhouses are likely to remain empty. We produce very little agriculturally that is competitive on world markets, and almost nothing on a year-round basis. So farming is dependent on a by-British narrative,. which has been very effective on things like protein, i.e. meat and dairy, but little else.
