Moses Permitted You to Divorce Your Wives Because Your Hearts Were Hard
Jesus' view of marriage was radical for his day, at odds with the culture of first century Israel. For Jesus, divorce is what the rabbis called a concession command. The law in Deuteronomy was God's attempt to protect a woman from abuse and a patriarchal culture. Marriage can survive tragedy or loss but it cannot survive a heart that is closed off to another.
