But guess how many times a healthy adult sleeper wakes up during the typical night? Not once, not twice, but 10 to 16 times. In pre-industrial Europe, people used to get up for an hour or two in the middle of the night to do chores and visit their neighbors before going back for a second sleep. The best way to tell if you need to worry about your night wakings is by how well you feel during the day. If you function well, feel awake and alert most of the time, and you can fall asleep well
