The highest form of mindfulness is what in poly is referred to as sati sampajana, or this is mindfulness with clear comprehension. This means that you know what it is that you are thinking, feeling, saying, and doing. In other words, you are aware of, metacognitively aware, of the sources from which these are arising. And this is not just applied to meditation. This is something that applies to every situation in your life.
