Reverse Engineering Thrill
Criminologist Jack Katz said the only way to understand how people construct their thrilling experiences, essentially they're designing their own rides. And so this is where I proposed my idea for reverse engineering thrill. My proposal back in 2003 was to interview people who made their own thrilling experiences and then deconstruct these experiences. It took me 12 months to pull apart all these interviews, and I published two booklets. In the taxonomy of thrill, I talk about the components of thrilling experiences as somebody might want to design or engineer a thrilling experience.
