Samuel richardson's clarissa is under read to day, which is a real shame. Doctor samuel johnson also called clarissa the first novel that really displayed a knowledge of the human heart. It's an epistolary novel, which means its comprised of letters back and forth between characters. And in those letters, we can see the inmost desires of the characters. We often talk of a fatal flaw, or homarsha. But we do that with our literature too.
