Smokey: A Chronicle of Melancholy
I was trying to define the tone of the book, and I think the phrase a chronicle of melancholy on the back of the book is pretty, pretty spot on. So in this book, there is a sense of sadness or pinciveness that doesn't necessarily have a true catalyst. The poems are much more personal, I think than anything that I've written in the past. Part of it is trying to figure out an eye that has power,. like I have control over my body, right? And then there's ways that, you know, people are stripping power away from me., she says.
