The Benefits of Breathing Deeper
When we're trying to inhale, our ribs need to go out and down the space between our ribs, the intercostal muscles expand. So as you exhale, they pull back in. But if you're breathing up here, you're shortening around your torso and you're not allowing the outer ribs to pull out. And so it's much harder to get the air in. We only really use these muscles when we're in a state of panic. You can practice this in your swimming as well as doing the strokes. Think of that inhale because you have just like a brief lesson a second to get that breath in.
