The Power of Contempt in American Politics

Hate is an expression of a deep seated need for relief. It's the best and fastest way to make a permanent enemy is to express contempt. That's what lies behind the polarization problem in American politics today. There are going to be more rules around it, but I do think there's going to be a natural life cycle where this problem will be self limiting.
