A growing argument is that food and lifestyle should be a frontline defense. The drugs do work for a subset of depressed patients, but they tend to be more effective the more severe the depression. For some, inflammation in the body can drive symptoms of depression. And so it doesn't take a stretch of the imagination to hypothesize that maybe cleaning up their diets and getting to a state of nutrient repletion could help.
