Netflick and Blockbuster Fought to the Death

Reed hastings over at netflik watched it all with weary glee. As long as ikon and antiaco fought with each other, black buster would not beat netlik. Hastings followed icon's lead, deriding antiaco publicly. Antioco announced plans for block buster on line. And then it got worse. For two years, net flicks grew almost unchallenged - from two million subscribers in two thousand four to six million at the end of two thousand six. Block buster stalled at just about a million subscribers as it struggled with debt and technology problems. Both companies were operating on a razor edge. Marketing dollars are the life blood of subscription businesses.
