Does metabolic stress cause muscle growth?

CHAPTER

The Role of Mechanical Tension in Muscle Growth

I think looking back on that study it's absolutely perfectly explicable purely on the basis of mechanical tension stimulus applied to a large number of muscle fibers. The difference in concentric contractions is that we're going to get more metabolites and with eccentric contractions we don't really see very much metabolic accumulation they're not metabolically expensive. So, I think that's a very important thing to increase our recruitment but ultimately it's still the mechanical tension that's occurring at the muscle fiber level which is driving hypertrophy.
