Loneliness and the Health Effects of Social Media

I was really struck by your New York Times op-ed recently about this. The increased risk of premature death associated with social disconnection is comparable to smoking daily and maybe even greater than the risk associated with obesity. And I know that you have focused on loneliness as a central focus of your tenure as Surgeon General. How does loneliness affect our physical health? Yeah, one of the most striking things about loneliness is how profound it affects both our mental and physical health.
