The 'Disaster'
Palestinian refugees either voluntarily flee or are forcibly removed from israel's territory. There are reports of casual violence, robbery and even outright murder of arab women and children during this process. The first leader of israel, david ben gurion, initially shrugged off the palestinian problem in 19 forty nine saying, the old will die and the young will forget naturally. Suffice to say, the young did not forget. This displacement became known among palestinians as el nacba, or the disaster.
