The Benefits of Bicarb
Sodium bicarb increases the production of lactate, and that's been shown in multiple studies. It can cause some decreased cardiac contractility by way of the lactated produces. Intracellularly, giving bicarb actually lowers the pH because it makes the intracellular environment more acidotic. People all the way down to 7.0 still didn't have increased risk of arrhythmias.
