Make Things That Matter
Prototyping to Learn
The orthogonal array is an idea that allows you to test so many possibilities with such a small number of prototypes. Dr. Taguchi basically found these things called magic squares and they're it's in the math realm of basically design of experiments. So for example, there's something called an L nine three to the fourth, which is a nine prototypes with four factors at three levels. That represents if I try to do every combination, that's 81 possible combinations, but I can actually do it in nine.
