It's fascinating to hear how the excitement and joy that you found in cooking was also wrapped up in this toxic environment. Like it's all like they're sort of inextricably linked. Nothing was so egregious or so violent or so toxic that I felt scarred, but there are a lot of people who've had really awful experiences in restaurants. "I am sensitive to other people's energies and what they say to me," she says.
