The beef board is a quasi governmental body pushing meat, advertising meat to the very same people. Less than the same time that beef is becoming less popular in the US government is warning people off of it. And they too were really pushing to make that happen. It wasn't just like an accident. I mean, a lot of it comes down to again that supply factor.
