All forms of exercise have benefit, so long as they're not overdone or inappropriate for the individual. Strength training needs to be in order to reap the real benefits of strength training. So if I did it like a bunch of circuits, even though I'm doing curls and presses and rows, really what I'm doing is just a lot of cardio with weights. This tends to lead to more appropriate applications of exercise.
