The Great Recession - A History of Progress

Two decades after the start of world war two had brought dramatic political and economic gains to the black population. In 19 forty, blacks faced stringent legal restrictions in such areas as housing, transportation and education. Even withthe same amount of education, the average black family earned only a bit more than half of its counterpart white family. Despite all the progressive legislation of the forties and fifties, blacks perceived that most neighborhoods, jobs and schools remained segregated.
