The fundamental attribution error says that when something bad happens to us, we tend to try to find something externally to blame for it. We always go to like positive things about ourselves. This is totally pervasive in our everyday lives. You can't really stop this type of thinking, but you can be aware of it. It's pretty logical that if you've got someone right in front of you who may have contributed to what you're feeling, it's really easy to be like, you did this to me.
