Ebbing House and the Memory Experiments

Ebbing house started out studying philosophy, like you. A chance encounter in a london second hand bookshop with gustave fechners elements of psychophysics book tips him into psychology and he starts his memory experiments. He was hugely influenced by another german philosopher called herbert. The brain is a rather inefficient, oddly evolved organ that doesn't quite fit what we ask it to do when we want it to learn mathematics or whatever. So one of the big weaknesses of the brain is forgetting. And that's what ebbing house focused on.
