The Effects of Glycolytic Exercise on Cardiovascular Adaptation

Glycolytic exercise doesn't actually use O2 pathways to create ADB, so why does it cause heavy respiration and cardiovascular adaptation? If I understand correctly, it's because of the extreme depletion of ATP caused by the glycolytic work. The body then causes the body to respond by using aerobic pathways to create ATP. But they take longer to do so and aren't as effective as an immediate source of ATP. Both of these pathways demand an elevated O2 intake - that's why you breathe harder.
