After writing Blue Zones, it became a popular book. I didn't want this idea to simply fizzle away. So we auditioned five cities within about an hour radius of the Twin Cities. We knew we wanted a city of about 20,000 people. And we actually landed on Elbert Lee, Minnesota. If you want to transform a city, which is what Blue Zones sets out to do, they set out not to change everybody's behavior but to change the environment so the healthy choice is easy choice.
