148 Records of Debt Owed to Jewish Money Lenders
My phd was effectively an exercising pedantry and it explored 148 records of debt. These are really important because they show christian jewish relations in a totally different light than we usually think of them. All debts include a profit clause prior to 1275 if you don't pay on the date that we've just specified it will accumulate interest at the rate of two pennies in the pound per week. This is a form of compensation for the fact that you've not got the money back by the specified date now if you repay at any point before that there's no interest paid. They use fun in a slightly weird and masochistic sense so for example only two scribes in each community
