The Microbiome of a Newborn Infant

When you're born your gut is largely sterile so there's a land rush by microbes to colonize this new habitat. Children depending on if they're born by C-section or vaginally will have a very different initial microbial community. Whether a child is breastfed or formula fed has a huge impact on the microbes and babies that are fed formula their micropital looks very different than breast milk. And then of course antibiotics the average American child is on a round of antibiotics every year and we know that that's a huge makes ahuge impact on on that growing community.
