The Queuing System for Reading
Students were not taught to sound out words in this lesson. Queuing is foundational to another approach to teaching reading known as fountace and penel literacy. One purpose of the books is to teach kids that when they get to a word they don't know, they can use context to figure it out. Children start with predictable books like In the Garden, and they move up levels as they're able to read the words. But many of the words in those books, butterfly, caterpillar, those are words beginning readers haven't been taught tosound out yet.
