Targeting the Outcome

When it comes to motivation, we tend to not require motivation for things that give us short-term benefit. The categories of things we need to motivate ourselves to do tend to be the things that might be painful in the short-term, but have some kind of long-term benefits. So a method of targeting the outcome is to make the outcome more salient. Some people enjoy watching videos like study with me videos where you watch a study YouTuber who's at university studying. And when you have that on a video in front of you, then you think, Oh, okay, this is great. I now know why I'm doing my studying because I can get to that outcome.
