The Masks of Sexual Trauma
I think about myself like kind of being five, six years old, having these feelings. And I knew right away, it was almost like I was programmed right away to know it's not okay. So for me, I learned from a very young age that masculinity was safe, femininity wasn't right. The hiding behind the mask of masculinity was safe for me amongst my peers. A lot of gay men take this trauma and shame and they go into this, this hyper sexual energy. That's the side, the shadow side of the sex positivity.
