The availability bias is a mental shortcut that means we rely on immediate examples. When you're thinking about traveling somewhere new, you'll probably use the form of transport that comes to mind first. A study of Londoners travel showed that only 4% of drivers actually ever thought about which mode of travel they would use before a given journey. 96% of us didn't even think we just got in the car or train or bus and went. So, can behavioural science offer a solution? Can it encourage us to use other forms of transport?
