God Knows I Will Vote for Candidate A
Occam concedes that, in general, past things are necessary. But he denies that there are necessary past truths about future things. It is misleading to say that if it was true yesterday that there will be a sea battle tomorrow, then the truth about the sea battle is a fact about the way things were in the past. This solves the problem because, as we've just seen, facts about the future are contingent. With these distinctions, SCOTUS, Occam and other 14th century volantris have offered a powerful, and in fact correct, solution to the age-old dilemma of future contingents.
