What is Bushido?
--> Japanese word that literally means "warrior way".
Bushi: "warrior" = literally 'military + man'.
Do: road, or way
- Bushido is also used as an overarching term for all the codes, practices, philosophies and principles of samurai culture.
- Bushido formalized earlier samurai moral values and ethical code, most commonly stressing a combination of sincerity, frugality, loyalty, martial arts mastery and honour until death
- It allowed the violent existence of the samurai to be tempered by wisdom, patience and serenity
- A code often unuttered to unwritten.
- Requires a rite of passage, and in order to become a Samurai, one must master this code.
- Variations by clan, by tribe and by territory.
