In Arizona, if you don't do that, you lose it all and probably here too. Stucco wire is half the price and it's a lot easier to work with. And you can get really wide rows, but it keeps the birds away. My tomato crop has fed a lot of birds. It's my cherry tree. I'd have to plant 68 tomato plants so I could have one for me and 67 for the birds. Well, we have five to six thousand square feet of garden and about three quarters of it is covered with stucco wire.
