The Importance of Fitting In
As a therapist I think about like this is the thing that comes up so often for people is like the shame, right? There's this like I feel like there's something wrong with me and if other people saw it then they would turn their backs and run you know. This strand of Christianity points us in the wrong direction because it actually says if you would change more than you would feel better. The more we perform if we perform to get belonging then there's always this counter narrative in our the back of our head that says well if people really knew me then they wouldn't actually accept me,. So it's not actual belonging it's fitting in.
