Barby, the Barby of the Nineties
Barbara millicent roberts was created by ruth handler, the co founder and first president of mattell. Her boy friend ken appeared two years after launch, in 19 61, and her best friend midge appeared in 19 63. Barby lived in a primari white world for a long time; an official black barby didn't hit stores until 19 80. By the time barby sales were tanking in 20 14, barby was still only being sold in a handful of skin tones and not many bodytypes.
