There's a stran, or strong evidence for a causal connet between guilt and the motivation to engage in reparative behaviors. If i do something to someone that is does actually require me to do something about it, to make amends for it, in some way. In that case, like feeling guilt is part of the motivational process of coming back to them later. So these are, these are functional emotions, right? And we all know this from personal experience, that guilt motivates us to repair harms that we've caused.
