There's an archaeological site called Ishamche, which was the capital of the Kichay people that was burned to the ground by Pedro Alvarado. In 2012, when the Maya calendar was supposed to end and didn't, the Maya there built a new stela and wrote it in modern Maya hieroglyphS.
