Duvallier's Deforestation
Duvallier held another public referendum, this time to make him president for life. For this election, he dispensed with all democratic pretensions. Only one preprinted yes ballot was issued. The rural population struggled from long neglect and unsustainable environmental degradation. As the population grew, the interior mountains just stayed put. But after world war too, everything hit critical mass.
