CHAPTER

How Does Freer's Humanism Differentiate From Seiser's?

Freer uses the dehumanization term that Freer uses throughout this text. In Seiser's discourse on colonialism he points out that the category of human as constructed by sort of enlightenment European philosophers has never been a true universal category. So to be human was to be European in some way and therefore dehumanization of the colonized was a critical aspect of colonialism. The goal of education for us is to make us aware of our place and time making us conscious of what it means to be human.
