How to Name a Brand
The word blue becomes a trademark not when you buy a domain name because you're not connecting it to anything. It would become a trademark when you actually create a website and put your products on it or your services on it. That right exists as soon as that connection is made between the brand and a good or service. The test for whether a mark might be blocked or if it's infringing is whether the consumers would associate the second mark with the first company.
