The American Legion's Fells With Fascism
Historians point to the American Legion as being a close cousin of Italy's black shirts. They were such fans of Mussolini that they invited him to speak at their convention in 1923. The Legion practiced an aggressive anti-communist vigilantism. In 1919, in Centralia, Washington, there was this notorious street battle between the American Legion and far left labor activism group called the Industrial Workers of the World also known as the Wobbles.
